In April, Capturing Creativity’s video team travelled to Trondheim, Norway, to film a new chapter in the documentary portrait of Nevena Ekimova, one of the artists in our collective.
Nevena is in Trondheim as a guest artist in the international residency programme of Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder (LKV) – an artist-run organisation founded in 1993. LKV is one of the city’s significant environments for artistic production: the building houses studios for more than 40 professional visual artists and craftspeople, shared workshops for wood, metal, photography, printmaking, ceramics and large-scale works, an international residency programme, and BABEL – LKV’s contemporary art exhibition space.
As part of the residency, Nevena presents the exhibition BRAID at BABEL. The project invites intervention from the audience and leaves visible traces of the interaction between the work, the space and its visitors.
We are sharing several still frames from the filming process – raw material captured on site. The images include fragments of the exhibition, the dismantling process, the BABEL space, the wider LKV environment, the everyday life surrounding the residency, and Nevena’s presence in Trondheim – an artist in a new context, yet with a clearly recognisable sensitivity to material, place and the people around her.
Born and raised in Gabrovo, Nevena Ekimova lives and works there today, developing a practice with a distinct visual language and a strong relationship to materials, space and context. Her education took her through Norway, Iceland and Sweden. Her work often brings together personal narrative, humour, social themes, found and recycled materials, tactility and a performative element. In recent years, she has realised solo exhibitions, public interventions and large-scale installations that move beyond the conventional format of exhibition space.
The short video from Norway will become part of TRACES: A Documentary Video Series, realised with the financial support of the National Culture Fund under the Debuts 2025 programme, and of the Sofia Municipality under the Mobility 2026 programme.
We would like to thank Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder (LKV) and BABEL for their support and partnership.
